Remember
that God’s attributes fall into two categories: communicable (those more shared with us) and incommunicable
(those less shared with us).
God is infinite with regards to
time. God has no beginning or end; He pre-exists
everything, including time itself, and is in no way bound by time. However, God is able to experience time and
act within time.
I.
The Majesty of the Eternal God (Psalm 90:2-4)
a.
God
pre-exists everything, including time itself (2a). Jude 24-25

God is

II.
The Mortality of Fallen Mankind (Psalm 90:1,3-11)

Whereas
God is eternal (immortal), man is merely mortal (3,5-6,9-10). James 4:13-15

Part of
our mortality is owing to the fact that we have sinned against the eternal God
(3,5,7-8,11).
c.
What we
do with the eternal God in our mortal life will determine our eternal destiny (11).
d.
As mortal
men and women, we need the eternal God to become an eternal refuge for us.
III.
The Appropriate Response of Mortal Man to the
Eternal God (Psalm 90:12-17)
a.
We should
ask the Lord to teach us to number our days so that we may gain a heart of
wisdom (12).
b.
We should
ask the Lord to have mercy on us (13).
c.
We should
ask the Lord to satisfy us with His steadfast love so that we may rejoice and
be glad all of our days (14-15).
d.
We should
ask the Lord to show our children and us His works and glorious power (16).
e.
We should
ask the Lord to let His favor be upon us (17).
